- Microtubule-organizing centers
The specialized non membranous regions of cytoplasm near the nucleus are the microtubule-organizing centers. These centers contain dense material. This material gives rise to a large number of microtubules. These micotubules have different functions in the cytoskeleton.
- Centrioles
One type of center gives rise to the centrioles. These centrioles are present at right angles to each other. Each centriole is composed of nine triplet microtubules. These microtubules radiate from the center. The centrioles are duplicated before cell division. Centrioles control chromosome movement. Centriole also organizes the cytoskeleton.
